Chemnitz, 18 June 2025: After the thinning out of the bicycle rental structures in Chemnitz, the Hotel c/o56 Chemnitz and the Chemnitz start-up VELOBRIX are now offering an innovative round-the-clock service: Bicycles can now also be rented at the well-known bicycle parking containers. The selection consists of three different e-bikes in various sizes, with a total of eight bikes available. The bikes can be booked directly online so that nothing stands in the way of a spontaneous bike trip.
‘With the new bike hire system from VELOBRIX, we are creating another sustainable round-the-clock offer for our guests,’ says Falko Grober, General Manager of the Hotel c/o56 Chemnitz, ‘if you want to get back on your bike in the evening after a conference or take a bike trip to the Ore Mountains at the weekend: everything is now possible!’
The company behind the VELOBRIX brand is RWC factory GmbH from Chemnitz. The start-up already has a lot of experience with parking containers for bicycles and has installed systems at over 30 locations to date, two of which are also in Chemnitz. In cooperation with the company SUNSHINE Bike Rental from Steinberg am See, the innovative 24/7 bike hire service will become a new business segment for the company.
‘Our bike containers are not only a safe place to park your own bike – they are also the ideal basis for bike hire without any business hours,’ explains Mr Patrick Rabe, Managing Director of RWC Factory GmbH. Only e-bikes will be available for hire so that all fitness levels can be catered for. The bikes are charged directly in the container so that they can always be rented fully charged. “We offer three different types of bike: Trekking bikes, mountain bikes and step-through bikes, and in different sizes,” adds Rabe. You can easily book your bike via a website on your smartphone. Payment is then made at the container by EC, debit or credit card. ‘We offer different tariffs, by the hour and by the day, so there is a suitable option for every user,’ says Rabe.
‘As a hotel, we have reached another milestone in our sustainability strategy,’ says Jette Rüdiger, Marketing Manager and Sustainability Officer at Hotel c/o56 Chemnitz, ‘after the charging options for electric cars, the green electricity, the regional breakfast and many other smaller and larger optimisations, we can now offer another form of sustainable mobility.’
